At the start of the 50km Brussels Tour, saw this image of a rider to appear in one of the later ventures. Over 3,000 riders appeared for the inaugural event. A massive success. Hopefully the ride will become a constant annual event and numbers will become massively larger.
Brussels has the 20k run every year and the numbers have steadily grown to over 50,000 runners from all over the world. It has become a race where a family event has encouraged thousands to be more active. The same is likely ahead for the 50k Brussels Tour.
If I had my voice, I would be looking for a folding bike category to add another field to the start line. I suspect Brussels has enough folding bikes to double the current field.
Cycling advocacy groups, GRACQ, Fietsersbond, ProVelo, have all been immediate supporters of the event, encouraging their members to attend. Word of mouth will bring another massive increase next year.
