World Naked Bike Ride in Brussels was June 21, and had over 200 people riding. The ride is a humorous effort to raise awareness of cyclists – but was emphasised this year with the serious accident involving a cyclists at an intersection, Rond Louise, the day before, and just a few hundred meters away.

A truck, negotiations the heavily motorised intersection, drove over a cyclist who had been using the pedestrian crosswalk to get through safely.

National cycling advocacy groups had protested the lack of safety on the roundabout multiple times, w no reply. As of this posting, it is understood the cyclists remains in serious condition in hospital.

But it underlines the call from World Nude Cycling Day that cyclists are incredibly vulnerable on the roads and far more has too be done for their safety. From simple awareness of their presence on the road, to improved infrastructure to allow them to move about safely.
