Understanding that large gear wheel advantage

Notes: Honestly, I have never seen any rear cog like this before. It is the proverbial telephone pole – the gear that lets you ride a vertical climb. It was a combination that had a few of us staring at the design. Very effective.

But cargo bikes and hills are not the friendliest combination. Having another gear to reach to is comforting. Especially when loaded. Just the smallest load, over  kilometre or so, can murder your legs.
I have done a few tours where this sort of combination would have been ideal. But, I still have to think about making a complete pedal revolution and the bike moving ahead 10 inches…
