A ride that is rarely seen, but always thrilling

“Kids have never seen anything like this before. Not in their lives. You have people just staring at you. It is like seeing a reindeer in the city. It is like seeing Santa Claus.”

Notes: Voila, a penny-farthing bicycle. One of the earliest bicycles. This went past and I thought he was gone before I could get the camera out. But it was the end of his ride and was putting it away when I asked for a, photo. It is a replica, but still the same basic bike – just not an antique. I like the commitment to character here. The waistcoated suit, the high boots, the goggles and driver’s cap. And then the stance, the serious expression. Something that has to be posted in black and white. Oh, and it was a promotion for Hendricks Gin – so I had to promise to drink Hendricks at some point in time… tough negotiations for a photo. I also had a nice smack on the wrist for the Brexit vote – all in good humour. We were of similar minds and shared our disbelief at the vote. He suggested that I should stay in Belgium. We parted laughing, with some sarcasm, at the situation.
