What need for more than a basic bicycle

“This did not cost so much. About €300 Euros. I do not think you need a bike that costs 1,000 or more. This bike is light and I like it. But it is just a basic bike.”

Photographer’s notes: I have a liking for this kind of thinking. There are some excellent bikes out there today that do not cost a fortune. Bikes that can ride hard and fast. One of my favourites in my personal stable is a junker bike I made from an eBay discount frame and leftover parts from an old bike. I had a Ridgeback that cost under €400 and I adored it. Brilliant city ride. I saw a Mango bike in the UK that really struck my fancy, and its price was ridiculously low.

Lately, I have been riding a racing bike I found for next to nothing and it is a stunner. Another eBay assembly. I would put it against any high-priced ride. But then, the real value are in the legs that are turning the pedals. If you want to go faster on your bike, ride more. A more expensive bike might give you a small edge, but nothing beats mileage. I have nothing against expensive bikes. I just think the rider has to earn the privilege. But I am an elitist.
