There is something wonderful in catwalk fashion. The sort of clothing you will never see on high street, but that entertain and inspire. This has to be in the background of the latest bicycle exhibit in Ghent.
Bike To The Future takes obvious license with the famous eighties film, Back to the Future, and then shows us a stretch of ideas for bicycles, from bamboo and wooden frames to bizarre, spokeless wheels that leave the cyclist suspended above the ground.
The idealised bikes of today, the merely practical carbon fibre models used by professional elite, are almost decoration, suspended in the air, off in a corner somewhere. The real pleasure is in the fanciful and bizarre.
And there is plenty of that to go around.
