The great white bike

©Barry Sandland/TIMB – What better place to be carbon-free than in a national park?

Day One: “They always have bikes at this park for people to ride. Even if you come in the middle of the summer, there is always a bike.”

Photographer’s notes: These are the white bikes at De Hoge Veluwe National Park in Holland. At each entrance, and then at the museum, gallery and restaurant, there are rows and rows of bikes. Hundreds of them. Actually, over one thousand. In one park. Dutch bikes. Tall, stand-up designs, single speed. Good for flat territories – so good in Holland.  They are free to take – included in your entrance fee. Just take the one you fancy.
