“I don’t have a car. I don’t have a driver’s license. I take public transport everywhere. I ride my bike to do everything. Being the bag was not so much a reflective moment but it was a clear decision. This is the economy I was raised in; this is the world …I was raised in. It is just the reality I am in now.”
Photographer’s notes: I was sitting at a café, enjoying a beer, watching rain clouds gather, just minutes from spreading freezing sleet across the roads, when this bag passed by the window. I tried to resit it, tried to let it crosstie street and disappear into the distance. It almost happened. But then I was up and running after the bike, wanting to get a photo.
Maybe I was over-sensitised to the message. I had watched The Short Money the other night – the true account film version of the housing/ bank crisis that brought about America’s and the worlds economic recession (read depression) over the past decade. The message seem apt to the reality presented.
