The mad and wonderful world of cyclocross spectators

Just two of the most enthusiastic cyclocross supporters at the World Championships in Zolder.

I found these two Japanese supporters at the start of the Junior race for the World Cyclocross Championships in Zolder. And then I saw them again and again and again throughout the weekend. There has to be a special place for fanatics…
Belgium supporters are there own kind of madness. Men walking about with marionettes strapped to their shoulders. Banner waving fanatics with their own favourite idol. And, in a less evident way, the thousand son supporters who come dressed in walking shoes and garden boots, rain gear included, ready to face the weather in order to stand alongside the course and scream at riders.

And then these two. They knew which of the Japanese tens was riding each race and, as they were called to the line, added a voice to the clouds.
