“The campaign has brought us to the forefront of people’s consciousness but, for us, we had no idea how many people cared about the shop. The fundraising has been, for me, very humbling. Before we began, we were concerned whether we would meet the initial target. But we met it early and it has been really awesome.”
Photographer’s notes: We are running a series of small pieces featuring the owners of the Brixton Cycles co-op and their efforts to find crowdfunding for the relocation other shop. This has to be one of the great dilemmas for small, community based ventures, the involvement and participation within the community brings little excess profit.
Fortunately, with the long-standing participation in the community, Brixton has some wealth in their community and have been successful, so far, in reaching their basic needs for the hoped for relocation. While a complete move will likely run £80,000, they have managed to crowd fund over £50,000 to dare – and there is still some time left.
As this piece posts, there is still no clear new home for the co-operative, though they are working to find a location still in the heart of Brixton.

You might be impressed by the shaggy barb being fashioned in the image. Apparently he has put it on the block, threatening to shave it off if a £60,000 target is met. A dire sacrifice, indeed. If you are interested in losing the pre-hipster growth, make a donation… Hopefully they will post a video of the facial scalping.
