©Barry Sandland/TIMB – The weekly club cycling event is a staple for many a cyclist, including the top echelon.

“This is the Ottawa Bicycle Club. They have been round since the sixties.  They put on a time trial every Thursday night and everyone gathers here. Mostly because it is the best organized and it’s well run.”

Photographers notes: When I pulled into the parking lot to get an interview and photo, I had no idea what I was entering. These are some of Canada’s elite cyclist and I was quickly welcomed into a conversation. It would be so easy for elite cyclists to be absorbed in the event, to be preparing themselves mentally and physically, so they would be less accessible. I like that cycling is this open to anyone and everyone. After all, I rode up on some touring bike hybrid, far removed from the carbon fibre custom machines that would soon take to the roads.
