Using the vacation to develop a cycling interest where cars dominate real space

©Barry Sandland/TIMB – Bikes and vacations seems standard. But it may be an entry to cycling for some riders.

“We have a bumper hitch on the wagon and we brought the bikes with us. Riding the bike has been fun and I was thinking I might have to try this.”

Photographer’s notes: There are regions that are dependent on cars because people have gotten into the habit, and there are regions where space is so vast, a car is a simple necessity. Welcome to the Northwest Territories where people drive 300 ams to go for the weekly shopping trip. Where they make 1,500 kms trips once or twice a year for the key shop sessions.

When you experience space like this, you wonder if the bike would have ever been a daily part of your life.
