To go by car instead of bike would mean to lose so much

“I always have my bike with me. What I have done today, in a car, would have been impossible. Three meetings and then here, and I can have a break. I would still be in a car, driving.”

Photographer’s notes: We talked for a long time about riding in Europe. How the culture has changed, how cities have either always been cycling capitals or are making the transition. Berlin, his hone and a cycling haven versus London where, in the eighties, cycling was considered an insane mode of transport. We could share horror stories of how drivers had no respect for cyclists and how, decades later, a real two-wheeled culture is well established (but far from ideal).
