Look at the traffic – stupid

©Barry Sandland/TIMB – With 15 years riding his bike in Brussels, there is more speed by bike for short trips. Up to four kilometres, cars will be at a disadvantage.

“I go everywhere by bike. Look at the traffic. It is completely stupid. I think it is irrelevant to use a car most of the time in town.”

Photographer’s note: I started following this rider as he made his way through traffic to a major intersection. It was his bumper sticker that caught my eye – a relatively common sight in Belgium, but it does give you an idea the rider will be rather determined. I like following riders who can read traffic, leaves space when it is needed, but can be confident enough to move ahead when a safe opportunity presents itself. He has about 15 years on the bike now.
